One top, 3 looks April 23, 2009

Trendy Thursday: One top, 3 looks

So after series of Polyvore sets, this lady is making her appearance again in Trendy Thursday section.

What I always like being a hijabi is how I can always alter my whole look by just altering my hijab/headscarf. So I can use my clothes again, and again, and again, and still able to achieve different looks just by altering a piece of cloth on my head! Neat huh?

This is look 1

The sleeping-while-standing look. To achieve this look, don on a beautiful printed purple, blue and black with glittery silver shawl. Pick your pose and be ready to be photographed. And immediately, when the camera flashed – close your eyes!

This is Look 2.

Wear a bright orange stretchy shawl (ooh I love those stretchy materials) that shines so bright it rivals the sun. Put on an oversized shades that is not only a great prop to copy the Paris Hilton look but also a great tool to protect the eyes (I mean seriously, protect those eyes people). Then stand in front of the door in gangsta-wannabe stance and say ‘wassup, wassup’

This is Look 3

Look demure as a cat waiting to be patted in this striped blue green shawl with a green lace headband while standing besides the stairs. Do spot the shiny sheen of sweat above the lip from hours of hard work trying to salvage a bad hijab day (yes, this is from a bad hijab day look actually).

I hope by the end of this 3 looks you realise that it is really easy to achieve variety by changing your hijab/scarf. And that I am trying to be funny. (this entry is definitely going into Kooky Kolumn too!).

Trendy Thursday: Brilliant Purple

Oooh I am so attracted to this brilliant pink and purple combination. I love brilliant colours and the picture above is all about rich brilliant colours!

And as usual, I would come up with my own version, just for the fun of it ;)

Brilliant Purple by Elwarda

I love the beautfiul panel skirts on the dress and I want to show it off, so I opt for an off-white open jacket. Modest enough to cover the upper body, but effective enough to show the beautiful colours and patterns! I chose a light-almost-white pink scarf to balance the rich colour of the dress and pants. I would style it back-pinned (again, a term I created to explain the way I wear my headscarf). I couldn’t resist the oh-so-cute purple clutch and the crystal drop earrings. Come to mama ;)

Enjoy and Happy New Year 2oo9! :D

Trendy Thursday: Blue Veil

tulisbiru

Last weekend we had a family wedding and I decided to try and fashioned a normal tudung into something a little bit different. Of all the headscarf fashion style, I found that to fashion a ‘tudung’ with traditional Malay attire like baju kurung and kebaya is the most difficult. I will normally just resort to normal ‘selempang‘ or a selendang.

So the picture above is me writing a gift card for our cousin. (check out the size of that pen!, most of my students are always amused when I wrote with that. But that’s the only pen that I didn’t lose!)

Firstly, I fashioned a deep turqoise square-shaped scarf ie. tudung bawal. I wore it like normal but instead of pinning in to the front of the face, I pin it at the back of the head. I then drape around the blue veil above it, creating the draping effect (again!, I must really love draping huh). and pinned it to the side of the face.

Close up look. Hello! :)
