Motivational Monday: It’s risky, but we do it anyway August 24, 2009

Nothing noble is done without risk -Andre Gide

Most of the time, the thing that we really, really want to do – will involve risk.

Uncertainty. Unpredictability. Ambiguity.

However, if we set our heart on it, if we work hard, and we pray – the path will be shown to us, God-willing.

It’s risky, sure. But it can be done ;)

Happy Monday and have a productive week! :D

Motivational Monday: When you are Uncomfortable – you Grow!

I was reminded of this fact while I was watching Biggest Loser. Oh yeah I love that show! I have learnt so many good things from watching that show.

People Grow the most when they are Uncomfortable. And when do people feel uncomfortable? When they are about to start doing something  new. Something that are not used to. Something out of their ordinary life routines.

People like comfort. People like knowing. People like being safe and secure in things that they knew and familiar. But all these things did little in helping them becomes a better person. In helping them Grow.

A few weeks ago, I felt that Uncomfortable feeling again. I was leaving something that is old and familiar for something that is new and scary. There were so many things I am not sure of. So many things I don’t know how to do. The sheer magnitude of the task is making me feel rather anxious and my stomach rather queasy. But I know if I want to Grow, I need to push through this. I need to embrace this uncomfortable feeling. I need to be ok with not knowing as much as I want but worked on all I have and know to make things work. Alhamdulillah, I passed that stage now :)

And with that reminder and knowledge, I am going to keep working on all the Uncomfortables until they become Comfortables. And when they do, I will go on to find new Uncomfortables ;)

Motivational Monday: Be proactive!

If you’re proactive, you don’t have to wait for circumstances or other people to create perspective expanding experiences. You can consciously create your own.

Stephen R. Covey

I really like this quote. Proactive people experiences more. They ‘live’ more. They ‘do’ more. They ‘know’ more. Most importantly, they ‘contribute’ more.

I am working everyday to improve my ‘proactive-ness’.

Why don’t you join me ;)

Motivational Monday: Liking it is happiness

Getting what you go after is success; but liking it while you are getting it is happiness.

Bertha Damon

I couldn’t agree more to this quote. Many people go after ’success’ at the expense of their happiness. I don’t think this is a very good way to live.

Success and happiness; both are subjective goals that differ from one person to the other. Whatever your own personal definition of success and happiness is, do know that you can achieve both.

Find within yourself your own definition of success and your own definition of happiness – and go after it with whole your heart and soul.

To both success and happiness, here and hereafter – Insya-Allah! :D

Be mentally hungry! March 30, 2009

Motivational Monday: Be mentally hungry!

I believe the most important asset that anybody can invest in, is their own mind. All the riches, power and influence will do no good if the person entrusted with it is not smart enough to handle it.

It is really important for us to keep feeding our mind with information and knowledge. But not just any information and knowledge because we are living in Information Age. In this time and age, information is everywhere! Learn to develop a skill of finding great helpful information and the ability to weed out the weak and misleading information.

Be alert and curious. Seek world-class knowledge. Question the source and integrity. Learn not from one, but many experts in many different fields.

Most importantly, work on the concept of being mentally hungry! If you don’t eat for a day, what will happen to your stomach? It will make a lot of noise asking to be filled. Imagine the same thing with your mind, if you don’t feed it with good information and knowledge daily, imagine it croaking and rumbling turning your head into mini earthquake! That gotta be dizzying :D

So be mentally hungry today and learn, learn, learn!

The longest journey March 23, 2009

Motivational Monday: The longest journey

What I admire most in a person is not their smooth crease-free face, not their bulging-fat wallets – but when I look for a quality that can be admired in somebody, I look for this certain special quality. This quiet elegance and calmness that came from knowing oneself, truly knowing onself.

Sometime in your life you will go on a journey. It will be the longest journey you have ever taken. It is the journey to find yourself.

Katherine Sharp

Without us realising it, each and everyone one of us, in our everyday life;  is actually on this journey. What differentiates one person from the other is whether they are doing it consciously or unconsciously.

Consciously learning about ourself will help us into living our life honestly, by being true to ourselves. Consciously learning about ourself help us in our relationship with our loved ones. Consciously learning about ourself made it easier for us to pick a career, to decide on a place to eat out, to choose a holiday destination.

In my personal experience, consciously learning about myself, brings me closer to the Maker of me.

It is painful, yes. This consciously learning about ourself thing. Sometimes it’s so painful you wished it were all bad dreams that will go away when you wake up. But the bad dreams never end. And you never wake up.

What to do then?

Well, what else is there to do but to deal with it.

And through this ‘dealing with it’ that you learn, you grow, and you find yourself.

Motivational Monday: Take 1..ACTION!

I have been feeling super lazy these past few days and I have soo much that I need to do. So here goes a little something to jolt my lazy brain up.

ACTION is ALWAYS BETTER than INACTION.

Even when you are tired, even when you are doubtful, even when you are not sure – take action! Do not sit on your bum like you have 1000 years to spare. Nobody is promised time, nobody is promised tomorrow, so if you have something you want to do – TAKE ACTION NOW!

Life is not like acting in a movie. Maybe Take 1 is all you got.

Heart of courage February 2, 2009

The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart.

Robert Green Ingersoll

This quote struck a chord in my heart, and it got me to thinking (and after that of course writing ;) )

In our lives we must have faced many failures, defeats and rejections. I know I did! And with every failure, with every defeat, with every rejection, our heart sort of shrink bit by bit. Our hearts that used to be as bold as a lion, has become as meek as a mouse. When our hearts used to roar loudly, it is now squeaking miserably.

Do you realise that?

When our hearts keep shrinking, when our spirit keep decreasing we became weaker everyday. We lost ourselves playing the blaming game. We used the victim card, again and again. We became lazy and uninterested in everything.

The truth is, we have become very, very afraid.

Life is all about UPS and DOWNS. If we lose our heart at every DOWNS, we won’t have any left!

We need to learn how to have a buffer everytime our heart is met with a crashing defeat. We need to know how to build resilience in our heart so that no matter how many times we failed, we can always bounce back easily.

Now how do we do that?

One way is to consciously seek positivity everyday in our life. Make a conscious effort to read motivational materials every day (that’s why I write this every Monday so that I can come again and read it some other day ;) ). Or watch inspiring movies. Or be around positive people.

But most importantly is  for us to work on our faith. Faith in Almighty. Faith in ourselves. But consciously work on it. Build it. Protect it. Feed it. Tend to it. If we don’t do it for ourselves, nobody else will.

I wish all of us the courage of heart! May our spirit grow stronger and our dreams grow bolder every day! :D

*roaaaaarrrrrrrrrrr* (that’s my heart roaring ;) )

Mind over Matter January 3, 2009

Teach Me to Fish Series: Mind over Matter

(Something I started a few months ago and would love to continue!)

I guess one of the most important factor in working towards success in everything in life – is the mind. Due to our conditioning, we will always look at our past to guide us into our future. Saying that is we failed that exam before, how can we got A’s now? We’ve been heart-broken in love before, how can we find true love? We’ve been burnt in business before, how can we make it work?

We let our past dictates our future and our current condition to be the guide as to what we can and we cannot do.

This is a seriously misleading thought!

All of us has been given this amazing tool called the mind. All we need to do is fully utilise it. However, not may people know the full capability of their mind, let alone to use it in the way it is meant to be used.

The first book I read about mind is The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy. The book blew my mind away and changed my life forever. I was 18 at that time and I could not stop speaking to my friends about it. Most of them didn’t understand what I was talking about though..

The book talkes about this amazing side of our brain called the Subconscious Mind. I seriously believe, learning about your mind first – is the first step to fully utilise it and to achieve maximum results. So grab those books, read them up. Learn about your own mind.

All successful people, in academic, in love life, in career, in business – they started from a single image/thought that they have in their mind. That they will be and are successful. CEO’s of companies pictured himself being CEO waaay before he knew what CEO really does. Happily married couple envision themselves in happy marriage state. Good students imagined all their A’s listed down on the result sheet months before they even sat for the exam. Successful business owner taste their sweet success even before it materialised.

They all use the power of their mind to imagine their success as how they want it to be.

Walt Disney is a great and over-used (sorry!) example of the person whose mind power is larger than life. Disneyland started only in his mind and for nearly 50 years now the product of his imagination has entertained many people from all around the world! He passed away even before he’s able to witness his project, but his imagination lives on. Such is the power of your mind!

Mickey Mouse is one of the first creation of Walt Disney and who doesn’t know Mickey Mouse!

Once you started learning about your mind, once you started believing in this amazing tool your Creator has bestowed upon you, once you are able to start using your mind the way it meant to be used – your life will never be the same again.

It was never too late to start learning about your mind. Get crackin people! :D

The next entry then would be about My Story and my experience in using the principle of Mind over Matter. Stay tuned!

Be Bold December 15, 2008

Motivational Monday: Be Bold

Quoated from ‘Screw it, Let’s do it’ by Richard Branson, he said ‘Be bold, but don’t gamble’.

If we look back at our life, doesn’t matter how long the life we’ve had -  I’m sure the most satisfaction we would feel is when we’ve done something, a bit bold.

Remember the first time you said hello to your dream girl/boy?
Remmeber the time you decided to enter that colouring contest in primary school?
Remember the time you decided to change career?
Start a new crazy hobby?
Sang in front of the public?

Things that made your heart pumped quicker. Things that excites us. Things that is a bit out of ordinary, out of our routine life.

Something, a little bit bold.

To be bold, or taking a bold action, we need to always believe in ourselves. If we are filled with doubt and insecurity, we will always find reasons and excuses to not do something. But in order to experience this boost of self-confidence, we need to do somethng bold first.

It’s like a chain reaction.

If I can describe it like this:

Bold Action Level 1 –> Confidence level 1 –> Bold Action Level 2 –> Confidence level 2 –> Bold Action Level 3 –> Confidence level 3

You know where this arrow chart is going.

Our level of boldness and self-confidence keep on increasing!

When I say bold, it doesn’t mean mindless-attention-seeking-cheap-publicity kind of stunts. You know, something along stuffing gazillion peanuts up your nostrils kind of thing.

It has to be positive-productive-bold-action. One that improves ourselves, increase our skills, broaden our horizon.

So…Good luck being bold, people  ;)
