Black and Purple May 21, 2009

Trendy Thursday: Black and Purple

purple1

I love how I style my hijab in this picture. The black scarf is a really special scarf. It is one of my favourite scarf ever as it’s so versatile, so easy to wear and so easy to style too!. And the blue and purple shawl adds a nice patterns and texture to the whole look.

Also, check out what sets you’ve missed in Elwarda Style ;)

Orange scarf and Big Z’s tunic May 14, 2009

Trendy Thursday: Orange scarf and Big Z’s tunic

orange

The title is pretty self-explanatory – I am wearing an orange and brown scarf here with Big Z’s tunic. To save me from questions like ‘where is this Big Z store?’, please note that Big Z is not a clothing store. Big Z is my husband.

Yes, that’s a men’s tunic which he never wore because it was not his style. Since it was more my style, he decided to lend me the tunic.  I think now I can call it Naziehah’s tunic ;) . But don’t you just love your men’s shirts? They are always so roomy and comfy!

Err, now you know this is not the first time I steal his shirts! :P

I wrapped my scarf Sabrina-style ;) . I think I am getting pretty good at it too!

Motivational Monday: When you are Uncomfortable – you Grow!

I was reminded of this fact while I was watching Biggest Loser. Oh yeah I love that show! I have learnt so many good things from watching that show.

People Grow the most when they are Uncomfortable. And when do people feel uncomfortable? When they are about to start doing something  new. Something that are not used to. Something out of their ordinary life routines.

People like comfort. People like knowing. People like being safe and secure in things that they knew and familiar. But all these things did little in helping them becomes a better person. In helping them Grow.

A few weeks ago, I felt that Uncomfortable feeling again. I was leaving something that is old and familiar for something that is new and scary. There were so many things I am not sure of. So many things I don’t know how to do. The sheer magnitude of the task is making me feel rather anxious and my stomach rather queasy. But I know if I want to Grow, I need to push through this. I need to embrace this uncomfortable feeling. I need to be ok with not knowing as much as I want but worked on all I have and know to make things work. Alhamdulillah, I passed that stage now :)

And with that reminder and knowledge, I am going to keep working on all the Uncomfortables until they become Comfortables. And when they do, I will go on to find new Uncomfortables ;)

Trendy Thursday: Hot Pink Trousers went to Paris

As stated on the previous post, here’s the pic. Taken a few years ago while I was a student touring Europe on my hard-earned part-time maid salary.

Ignore the extremely touristy picture, but focus instead on the Hot Pink Trousers! And the bright orange plastic transparent bag that is so cluttered with all sorts of junks.

Fashion-sense aside, now you know how much I love my colours! :P

Black Dress Red Shoe March 12, 2009

Trendy Thursday: Black Dress Red Shoe

naziehah

Black dress and red shoes for a date night with Big Z. We went and watch M.Nasir’s Alam Muzik Concert at Istana Budaya.

naziehah

I like dressing up because most of the time I am either in my pjs (because I work from home) or in my workout attire teaching belly dancing. Any chance I got to play dress up I’ll took it! :D .

The dress is this really old thing I bought at a charity shop in the UK. I have worn this dress about a million times. To create a different look, I throw on a black and silver belt I found hanging in my closet. I got the red shoes at Gaza’s Charity Bazaar a few weeks earlier and I am quite excited to wear them for the first time! :D

I really like the scarf that I am wearing that night, and the way I styled it. But we were in a rush so I forgot to take a close up pictures.

I believe we don’t have to buy every latest trends, and keep buying new clothes just to look nice and stylish. With a little bit of creativity in accessorising and hijab-styling – any old thing can shine as new ;)

Sunny selling day and blog (In)Trend February 28, 2009

I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone’s shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I’ll live as I believe

My heart soared as how Khatijah Ibrahim’s voice soared loud and clear on humid Saturday that is today. (Khatijah Ibrahim is a Malaysian singer and she has the most powerful voice). She’s also an entrepreneur and her business, Khaty’s Kitchen also participated in the event. Today she also graciously sang us this beautiful song that made me run from my booth to the main stage.

Oh what a song. Oh what a voice. Oh what a day!

Today I did my first offline promotion, participating in an Entrepreneur’s Carnival organised by 4 combining Malaysian women entrepreneur’s group.  I mostly did marketing for my Elwarda Classes, Workshops, and Women’s event. I also printed a few of Elwarda’s Gift Certificate to sell. As a first timer, I did many rookie mistakes such as not bringing a receipt book resulting in Big Z having to roam around KL looking for one! But all is sorted as soon as possible, pheww!

My first customer! :D . She is so darling and her kid is just so cute! Thank you Asmida, I hope to see you again soon :)

Need. to. write. receipt. quick!

Sometimes we just need to close our eyes when it’s the only good close up pictures! Grrr..

The strangest things is, all throughout this day a few people kept coming to me and said, ‘Oh, I read your blog!’. And I went – Hmm..I have blog readers? My first customer above is one of them!

And they said oh, from this magazine, and that magazine and I went scratching my head as I have no idea which magazine they were talking about. I know have short write-up coming up soon but they will usually tell me when it will be published!

Until a few of them said, Intrend March! So I just have to check them out for myself. (InTrend is a  Malaysian women magazine published in Malay language)

intrend2
This is the cover, but where, where?

intrend3
Oh, there it is!

closeup
Look closely..naziehah.wordpress.com is chosen as blog Pilihan Kami Bulan Ini’ (Blog of the month!) :D

Thank you people in InTrend! I heart you for the  exposure and the lovely round red star sign stamp! I suddenly felt so giddy like when you received a star from your teacher at school for getting full marks ;)

No matter what they take from me
They can’t take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me

I am grateful for all the opportunity, for any big or small exposure, and for the good and kind people that I met today and every day. Thank you too hubby Big Z for all your help and support always, especially today with all the running around looking for receipt books! ;)

I had a great day today and I hope yours are great too! :D

I went to see the kids of Mentari Project last Saturday, before my Beyond Basic class. I have never seen a bunch of kids so eager to learn and be taught. In my years of tutoring my siblings, the most effective method to make them listen to me is to ‘piat telinga’. But these kids were  hanging on my every word as if I am pouring gold from my mouth, or maybe to them sweet candies. It just shows that they really do need guidance and mentoring.

I am afraid I can’t come two weeks in a row like they encouraged as I have an exhibition next Saturday, but I will do my best to come the next week and anytime I have time to spare on my Saturdays, Insya-Allah.

*******

After Beyond Basic class, me and my students chatted for a bit as usual. Then and there I realised how fortunate I am to have the opportunity to meet and share a bit of myself with these wonderful people. Most of them have stayed with me for years and I am really touched and grateful for their loyalty. It made me wonder what is it that I do to deserve such kindness from them.

All I can ever do is to teach them the best that I can, give them what they are looking for, and pray for their happiness and wellbeing always.

*******

And uh, one of  my uh, article is going to be published by one of the uh, local English magazine. *shy-shy*

I don’t know why I am quite shy about this when I am well, never a very shy person. I guess because I never see myself as writer, writer you know what I mean.

But Dr. G asked me to get over myself and do as I advise people, so I am selling myself!

I guess I can call myself a published writer now? :P

And uh, I am also actually working on a book! So since now this is out in the open,  feel free to pressure me and ask me when I am going to finish it, eheh.

Bad Hijab Day February 19, 2009

Trendy Thursday: Bad Hijab Day

I am sure all of hijabis have had that day. The day when all the layerings didn’t work. The day when it decided to gave us the worst crease, the worst shape, the worst look. The day that I call – a bad hijab day. Like a bad hair day.

bhd2

This is how I look on one of my bad hijab day

I still remember that day. What a long, long day. I wanted to layer the light blue scarf on top of the dark blue ones. It started bad as the dark blue scarf has a rather thick material, then I folded it into 2, which made it look bulky.  Then it got worse because the light blue scarf just wont sit nicely on the dark blue scarf and keep sliding away. The combination of the 2 actually sucks and made my head look big, but not in a couture-ish big, more like alien big,

Big Z still wants to take my pciture despite my foul mood having to wrestle with the hijab so that’s how I look.

And he said, come on show a happy face, that’s not how people take pictures. So this is the end result.

bhd3

My forced happy face on a bad hijab day. Peace!
